'Would This Be Much More Serious If The Man Had Died?'

4 The Little Guy has a good rant today about The Press Unhinged.

It’s hard to imagine a clearer illustration of just how detached the White House press corps is from the heartland of America than today’s press conference about the Vice President’s hunting accident. These reporters seem genuinely shocked that the Vice President and his party would have the nerve to attend to the medical needs of the injured man before calling the press. It may not have happened today, but at some point David Gregory and his pals are going to have to realize that the world does not revolve around them.

When I was watching this press conference, I thought the same thing. I kept expecting to see the reports start poking their lower lips out and threatening to take their recorders and go home. It was more like a temper tantrum than a press conference. I actually laughed out loud a couple of time, especially at David Gregory. He was obviously very perturbed that the Vice President would allow his hostess to make a statement to a back-woods small town rag rather than to inform the really really important reporters like him. It was really pretty sad. You would have thought Chaney had challenged someone to a duel and shot them dead. And even worse, he didn't call David Gregory first! 4 The Little Guy also points out some of the really funny questions the press asked in the press conference. One question in particular struck me, 'Would this have been much more serious if the man had died?' Uh. I think it might have. Their questions highlighted their complete lack of understanding of Middle America and/or hunting. As he points out, it got more and more obvious that most of them have never even spoken to a hunter. When they kept obsessing about Chaney not reporting it to the White House press corp for a whole day, I couldn't help but think of how long it took Teddy Kennedy to report killing a woman to the local police back when. But that doesn't count, it was a long time ago and he's a Kennedy. Well, I guess this is a convenient diversion from the former Vice-President Al Gore's seditious statements in Saudi Arabia. In addition to 4 The Little Guy there are some really funny and serious posts on this unfortunate accident. Sister Toldjah; The Median Sib; Kim Priestap and Mark in Mexico has two posts, 'Wild Bill Chaney Creates Lefty-Blogswarm' and Chaney Shoots Lawyer - IMPEACH BUSH!
