Atlas Shrugs tells the story of the mother of a fallen soldier, Marilee Carlson, who is trying to get her story out. She has been disturbed by that other mother getting so much attention through media stunts. The other mother's message is so negative that Ms. Carlson has tried through a family organization she chairs to get positive messages out about our military. She's not had much success in getting the MSM to give any air time to her story. Guess the progress and good things our military is doing just isn't as interesting as the other mother kissing Chavez.

Thirdee at Code Red: Women for the Troops gives us a great example of why children have more wisdom than adults at times. She quotes 5th grader Brett Owen, 'You should feel proud and say, "Wow! My dad is a hero. He'll risk his life to defend our country." You really should read the rest.

She also has posted an article about how
bloggers are playing a role in getting the news out about our military. Hooah

The Cozy Reader writes about fading stars and how they might better spend their money and support the troops that make it possible for being as ditzy as they are (I added the last part - poetic license!)

Anna,
A Rose by any Other Name, has posted a request for emails of encouragement to a family who lost a son in Iraq and are now being stalked and mercilessly harrassed by anti-war hate-mongers. This story just infuriates me.

Please take the time to send encouragement to this family who has sacrificed so much and are suffering at the hands of people who don't understand they are only able to say and do the things they are doing because of people like them.

Anna hat tips Wordsmith at
Sparks from the Anvil, you can read more there. You can also read more about this at A Soldier's Perspective.

Retired Sgt Major
Echo9er posted about the adjustments the Army is making in its global force posture to meet the challenges the American Army faces today.

You Betcha I'm a Proud Army Mom gives us a post to help lighten up the aggrevation at all the negative 'news' we hear on the MSM about our Soldiers and our country. She says she's trying to get her sense of humor back (I can relate, btw). In order to brighten things up a bit, she post about a War Dog Memorial Dedication Ceremony coming up in June.

The Carnival is going to end on that note this week. I appologize for it being short, but I've just slap run out of time. I know there are so many great posts that honor our Soldiers and speak to the concerns and pride of the families and friends of our Soldiers.

Let me know if you have a post you feel needs to be included.

Thanks to everyone for participating and especially thanks to all of our men and women in the Armed Forces.

I hope you all have a great week!

Has Jimmy Carter had a Brain Scan Lately?

In all seriousness, there is something wrong with Jimmy Carter.

When he was speaking on TV yesterday about his most recent treasonous activities, it took him 30 seconds of stumbling around to find his words.

But that's beside the point.

I literally can't find the article about Carter's siding with the U.N. against the U.S. now .... ????

I should have posted it last night when I read the articles, but I went to bed instead.

I do think he is possibly having some dementia. He is being used by enemies of the country. He speaks of his meetings with U.N. officials and talks of his predecessors as though he is still President.

He criticized American Christians for siding with Israel. He took a swipe at President Bush's Christianity saying he (Carter) believed in a God of Peace not of war.

Carter called Secretary of State Condi Rice to complain that he had made promises to unnamed members of the U.N. and the U.S. policy regarding the Human Rights Commission makes it impossible for him (Carter) to keep those promises.

I truly believe he is declining into dementia.

[I'll put up sources when I find them again.]

North Carolina Students Attacked in act of Retribution

Around noon today, Mohammed Reva Taheriazar, a recent graduated of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, drove a rented Jeep into a crowd at the University.

There were injuries, but fortunately no one was seriously injured. He told police he had tried to rent the largest SUV he could find. He also said he had done this 'seeking retribution for the treatment of Muslims around the world'.

From
ABC11TV

(03/03/06 -- CHAPEL HILL) - The driver of an SUV that plowed into a group of pedestrians at UNC-Chapel Hill on Friday told police it was retribution for the treatment of Muslims around the world, according to ABC News.

It happened around noon Friday in front of Lenoir Hall on the campus, in a common area known as the Pit. Paramedics took six people to UNC Hospitals. Five had been released by Friday evening and the sixth was not expected to be admitted.

Officials say none of the people were seriously injured. Three refused treatment at the scene.

Chapel Hill police say they arrested the suspect, Mohammed Reva Taheriazar, 23, of Chapel Hill, shortly after the incident. Several witnesses were able to give police the rented Jeep Cherokee's license plate number. Police said they would charge Taheriazar, a psychology major who graduated from UNC last semester, with several counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Link to terrorism?

Sources say Taheriazar told police he was seeking retribution for the treatment of Muslims around the world, according to ABC News justice correspondent Pierre Thomas. Taheriazar apparently told police he tried to rent the biggest SUV he could find to use in the attack.

By Friday afternoon, a police SWAT team had surrounded a Carrboro apartment complex where Taheriazar reportedly lived.

I'm wondering why this is only a short blurb on one local news station. We all know that if the attacker had not been Muslim it was have been on the news over and over and over again.

I try to wrap my mind around why our media, so-called intellectuals and elite continuously give a pass to bad behavior on the part of anyone who attacks Americans or Westerners on grounds of anything Islam.

What is with that?

If some redneck somewhere had driven his pick-up truck into the front of a Masque it would have been on the news repeatedly.

Oh, and I almost forgot, this is referred to as an 'accident'.

We really need to wake up.

Danish Prime Minister Rasmussen Speaks Out

Prime Minister Rasmusen was interviewed on Sunday. [English transcription here]

"What we are facing is a matter of grave principle, though not all of the reactions can be taken quite seriously. What we are facing - what is shown on TV daily is - to pick a good one, a demand from the Arab Street that I must punish Carsten Juste [ED: Editor of Jyllands-Posten] - the details vary, either decapitation or the gallows," the Prime Minister says and continues:

"The cartoonists are to be extradited and tried under Sharia. The worst possible threats have been issued against Danes and our embassies have been torched. The list goes on. That’s what we are facing daily. Do 12 cartoons justify that kind of reaction? I think that is rather doubtful. But what I have seen the Danish media, some of them at least, concentrate on lately are matters of detail - the correct translation for a line in a letter, questions of whether a meeting should have been accepted or not and the matter of whether the Committee on Foreign Affairs ought to have been informed a bit sooner - what I am saying is that those are pinpricks, if proven to be a problem, in comparison to what we are facing. Those facing us have no doubts about religious matters and other matters as well. But we are focusing on matters of whether we handle things by the protocol - matters, I should add, which aren’t about protocol at all, but about politics and principles."

When Mr. Rasmusen is asked about the clash between Danish principles of Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press and Muslim world's principles of religion, he replied:

"I would like to stress that Freedom of Speech stands second to none for me of all our liberties. I see it as the guarantor of all our other liberties. And I see Freedom of Speech - the right to speak truth to power - as the basic locomotive of all Western societies. It’s what makes progress possible, that norms aren’t accepted on face value. That’s why it is so essential to guard it. All our liberties are answerable to the courts, of course. I too think that there are limits to what one may lawfully say. For instance, I don’t think it’s right if you have the liberty to encourage violence and terror. And apart from that, we also have a restriction on racist or blasphemous speech, and if you feel that you’ve been so spoken to, you may take your complaint to a court of law. So it is a liberty that is limited by the courts - but - here’s the point - the limits are enforced by the courts, not the government. That’s a lesson we have to be mindful of."

When asked about the view of this issue being skewed in favor of the Muslim community, he replied:

"I think that’s very clear. If it bleeds, it leads and flag burnings and the burning of effigies and arson and violent protests in general are easier to are depict than the insubstantial values of Freedom of Speech and Press. There is also a tendency, out of fear or weariness, to just feel ‘let’s move on already’ and that the response then is ‘okay, you win’ and to just give in. But that will do noone any good. Peaceful coexistence must be the goal and the means."

Reading the entire interview is very much worth doing.

Rasmussen has shown himself to be a true Stateman of honor and integrity. Denmark has been a strong ally of the United States and has a history of taking courageous stances (ie: helping Israel in WWII).

At the end of this interview Mr. Rasmussen states:

It’s a crisis between Denmark and the Moslem World

Denmark should not stand alone in this crisis.

Cowardly Jihadists Target Cartoonist's Child

I'm really loving the Danes.

During an interview with TV-Avisen a spokesman for the Liberal party in Denmark, Jens Rohde, revealed that 12 Muslim men have targeted the daughter of one of the Cartoonists who drew the cartoons of Muhammad. The men attempted to get her at her school. Fortunately, she was not at school at the time.

He also revealed that the cartoonists have been in hiding, have had death threats and their lives turned upside down.

This came during an interview in which Jens Rohde was discussing an interview in which the Prime Minister of Denmark attacked the business community of Denmark for putting profit over Freedom of Speech.

From
the Police Intelligence Service: [English transaltion courtesy of Agora]:

Unsafe for the Cartoonists

Four months after the cartoons were published, the Police Intelligence Service still doesn’t think it’s safe for the cartoonists to live in the open in Denmark.

They are therefore still under police protection at secret addresses. From sources near to the cartoonists, Dagbladet.no is informed that some of them are receiving help from a psychologist to them deal with the situation.

"None of them had thought that their cartoons would create such a worldwide ruckus," the source says.

Manifesto Against Islam

This has just come in via Stop the ACLU. Published today in the Jyllands-Posten from 12 brave intellectuals:

MANIFESTO: Together facing the new totalitarianism

After having overcome fascism, Nazism, and Stalinism, the world now faces a new totalitarian global threat: Islamism.

We, writers, journalists, intellectuals, call for resistance to religious totalitarianism and for the promotion of freedom, equal opportunity and secular values for all.

The recent events, which occurred after the publication of drawings of Muhammed in European newspapers, have revealed the necessity of the struggle for these universal values. This struggle will not be won by arms, but in the ideological field. It is not a clash of civilisations nor an antagonism of West and East that we are witnessing, but a global struggle that confronts democrats and theocrats.

Like all totalitarianisms, Islamism is nurtured by fears and frustrations. The hate preachers bet on these feelings in order to form battalions destined to impose a liberticidal and unegalitarian world. But we clearly and firmly state: nothing, not even despair, justifies the choice of obscurantism, totalitarianism and hatred. Islamism is a reactionary ideology which kills equality, freedom and secularism wherever it is present. Its success can only lead to a world of domination: man's domination of woman, the Islamists' domination of all the others. To counter this, we must assure universal rights to oppressed or discriminated people.

We reject cultural relativism, which consists in accepting that men and women of Muslim culture should be deprived of the right to equality, freedom and secular values in the name of respect for cultures and traditions. We refuse to renounce our critical spirit out of fear of being accused of "Islamophobia", an unfortunate concept which confuses criticism of Islam as a religion with stigmatisation of its believers.

We plead for the universality of freedom of expression, so that a critical spirit may be exercised on all continents, against all abuses and all dogmas.

We appeal to democrats and free spirits of all countries that our century should be one of Enlightenment, not of obscurantism.
Solidarity. The 12 people who wrote and signed this document know very well the risk they take. We need to send a clear message that they don't stand alone.

I don't agree with every word of this manifesto. I do believe we are in the midst of a clash of civilizations and I don't believe we will be able to have a respectful dialogue. This enemy has shown themselves to not be reasonable and you can't reason with unreasonable people. They have also shown a determination to destroy western civilization and to dominate the world. That being said, I do believe this is a step in the right direction. We must stand up to them.

Attention New Yorkers: rally for solidarity with Denmark this Friday from noon to one.

Address: Outside the Danish Consulate at One Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, 885 Second Avenue.
